IMPORTANT: GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE SPEAKERS AND PARTICIPANTS TO BOOK THEIR FLIGHTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The School and Conference will start each on MONDAY AFTERNOON (23.3.,30.3., resp.), so that participants may ARRIVE ON MONDAY MORNING at Ajaccio's airport. A special shuttle bus is scheduled to the Institute to leave from Ajaccio's airport at 11.30 AM.
Those who arrive earlier in Corsica may reach easily the airport from Ajaccio and take the bus at the airport on Monday morning.
Both the School and Conference will end up at LUNCH TIME ON FRIDAYS (27.3., 3.4., resp.). Participants who would like to leave will then be brought back to the airport and may plan to take departure flights from 5:00 PM onwards.
Those who might face schedule problems, either on Mondays or Fridays should contact as soon as possible the organizers.
Concerning those who take part in both, the school and conference, it is possible to stay in Cargese during the week-end (28+29.3.).
General informations on travels to Corsica follow, especially for those who would like to reach the Institute by their own means.

TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS

Traveling to the School and Conference

The School is held at the Institut d'Études Scientifiques in the village of Cargèse, Corsica. The best way to get to Cargèse is to travel into Ajaccio, the regional capital and administrative center of Corsica in the South West of the Island, located 50km south of the Institute.

Getting to Ajaccio by air

Ajaccio can be reached by plane from Paris, Marseille or Nice. Any international flights will involve a transfer at one of these places. Booking as early as possible will insure that you get reasonable prices. Click here for Ajaccio airport information

Getting to Ajaccio by boat

Corsica can be reached from a range of ports around the French and Italian coastlines. Ajaccio can be reached from Marseille, Nice or Toulon. From Nice, a high speed boat to Ajaccio is available (travel time 3.5 hours).

SNCM from the French coast
TRAGHETTI from Italy
CORSICA - SARDINIA FERRIES from both the French and Italian coasts
CMN from both the French and Italian coasts

Getting to Ajaccio by public transportation

It is possible to travel into other main centers in Corsica such as Bastia and Calvi, and travel to Ajaccio by public transport. Click here or here for more information.

Transport to Cargèse from Ajaccio

There are 50 km by road from Ajaccio to Cargèse. If you are driving, follow the directions to Calvi par la côte or Calvi. In addition, a good map and route planner can be found on ViaMichelin

One or two buses will collect participants arriving at Ajaccio airport. The exact schedule of the buses will be made precise soon so that participants can organize accordingly their arrival at Ajaccio.

Additionally a public bus travels from Ajaccio to Cargese. Be aware that there are few departures.

-From the Ajaccio airport to the Ajaccio Bus station/coach terminal ('gare Routiere' in french) (which is also the Maritime station).
-From the Ajaccio Bus station to Cargese.

Taxis can be booked at a rate of 80 euros from Ajaccio to Cargese during the day (100 euros for early, late at night and non working day transfers).

Visas

Travel into Corsica may require a French visa.
Check if you need a visa !!!

Please be aware that visas can take up to several months to be issued. Application for necessary visas should be submitted at the earliest possible time.
